Position Summary
As a machinist you will operate computer numerically controlled (CNC) and manual machines and tools, such as lathes and milling machines, to cut and produce precision parts for machines, instruments, and tools. The Machinist will repair or produce parts using both manual and automated equipment with precise measurements, optimizing procedures to ensure effective production operations and quality standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Ability to safely operate saws, manual lathes and mills
- Verify conformance of finished work piece to specifications using precision measuring devices (such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, etc.)
- Accurately log in and off of jobs and accurately fill out job paperwork
- Consistently hit daily planned times on jobs
- Deburr & stamp parts after machining
- Maintain a neat, orderly, and safe shop and work area, equipment and tools, empty chip hoppers when necessary
- Ability to perform set-up of components on multiple machines
- Ability to understand and set up tooling (select, make, & grind suitable tooling), feeds, speeds coolants, cutting and lubricating oils.
- Ability to load/unload automated equipment
Education, Qualifications, Experience
- High school or equivalent, vocational and/or postgraduate technical program preferred
- Self-motivated individual with an eagerness to learn
- Mechanical aptitude and strong math skills
- Must have great measuring skills and blueprint reading skills
- Must be able to follow work instructions and SOPs
- Experience with assorted manual mill & lathe equipment preferred
- Preferred, but not required, experience operating CNC Lathes, CNC Mills and/or Vertical Turn Lathes

While performing the duties of this job, the employee:
- Frequently uses hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms to operate material handling equipment and cranes
- Occasionally climbs stairs and ladders; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and twist
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds
- Must be able to stand for up to 10 hours per day
- Frequently use close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and adjust focus vision
- Frequently talks or hears and be exposed to occupational noise
- Prolonged daily standing and walking on concrete, uneven slippery and gravel surfaces
- Wear daily appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including respirator
- Daily exposure to dust/fumes and intense light
