For 75 years, Berry Metal Company has helped shape the future of iron and steel production through engineering innovation, customer-focused solutions, and a commitment to manufacturing excellence.
Founded in 1951 by Walter Berry in Harmony, Pennsylvania, Berry Metal has grown from a trusted supplier of furnace equipment into a recognized leader in steelmaking technology. Yet the company’s story began even earlier. In 1918, Walter Berry and his father, William Berry, patented a tin-free bearing bronze alloy known as “Berry Metal,” laying the foundation for a legacy of innovation that continues today.
As Berry Metal marks its 75th anniversary, the company reflects on decades of technological advancement and industry partnership.
“For three-quarters of a century, Berry Metal Company has proudly represented American engineering and manufacturing excellence,” said George Boy, President and Chief Executive Officer of Berry Metal. “We’ve adapted with every generation of steelmaking technology while remaining true to the values that have defined us since 1951: innovation, reliability and putting our customers first. Those principles will continue to guide us for the next 75 years.”
Over the years, Berry Metal has built a reputation for solving complex challenges across the steelmaking process. The company has developed more than 50 patents and delivered innovative solutions for blast furnaces, basic oxygen furnaces, and electric arc furnaces. These technologies have helped steel producers improve operational safety, enhance productivity, and achieve higher levels of performance.
Berry Metal’s longevity is a testament not only to its technical expertise, but also to its ability to evolve alongside an ever-changing industry. From the early days of furnace equipment to today’s advanced steelmaking technologies, the company has consistently embraced innovation while maintaining a steadfast commitment to customer success.
As the steel industry continues its transformation, Berry Metal remains focused on delivering practical, reliable solutions that help producers meet the demands of the future. The company’s 75-year milestone serves as both a celebration of past achievements and a foundation for continued innovation in the decades ahead.
