Associate Manufacturing Engineer

Department: Production – Zelienople, PA Facility

Reports To: Senior Manufacturing Engineer

SUMMARY:

The Associate Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for the identification, development, and implementation of efficiency improvement opportunities on the manufacturing floor. Strong knowledge of Lean/Six Sigma, 6S, and Kaizen principles are a must. Must be able to work in collusion with Management to identify areas of non-value-added activity and waste in production processes and procedures. Development of preventative maintenance (PM) schedules as well as make recommendations when machines should be upgraded or replaced. Responsible for communicating and scheduling the daily work for a two shift operation in the Fabrication Shop based on schedules provided from Production Planning.

Education and Training Required

  • Minimum 0-2 years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering or Industrial Engineering
  • Bachelor’s Degree in manufacturing or Industrial Engineering
  • APICS membership or CPIM certification preferred.
  • Basic understanding of inventory accounting procedures.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Technical drawing and documentation reading and writing skills training.
  • Lean Six Sigma and Just in Time (J.I.T.) philosophy training
  • ISO quality control system training.

Skills Required

  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem-solve Production flow related problems in the Plant Shops.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with Management, Plant Personnel, Sales, Engineering, Quality and Accounting Departments.
  • Ability to read drawings and understand what manufacturing processes are needed to manufacture the item.
  • Understanding of operations and procedures related to manufacturing environment with Foundry, Machine, Weld, Repair and Assembly Shops.
  • Understanding of ISO 9001 quality control system procedures and requirements.
  • Proven experience within Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc)
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Strong analytic skills

Position Duties

  • Evaluate quality control processes and make recommendations for improvements in processes and procedures
  • Analyze production processes, schedules, methods, and other data and then provide management with reports containing the data and statistics to enable management to better understand future requirements needed for the manufacturing process
  • Analyze and plan workflow, equipment placement and space requirements to improve manufacturing efficiency
  • Coordinate equipment maintenance and repair services and make sure that the manufacturer’s procedures and instructions are followed to keep production equipment operational with minimal downtime
  • Ensure manufacturing processes, equipment, and products comply with safety standards and legal regulations
  • Developing and implementing cost savings measures and quality control systems
  • Perform pre-inspect process of incoming items of repair to bring them back to “like new” condition
  • Schedule work and workflow in Fabrication Shop according to plan set forth by Production Planning Department
