Driver/Material Handler

REPORTS TO: Plant Manager

PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION:

Prepare and ship Company product and supplies, unload and stage incoming material. Assist in maintaining control of all inventoried product which includes, upload and relocation of materials to various workstations and inventory locations and while charging out material to appropriate jobs.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and package all items for shipping.
  • Unload and load trucks as required following safety protocols.
  • Verify all incoming product for proper count and overall general condition and deliver all items to the respective storage areas.
  • Operate fork truck, overhead crane and radial arm saw and nail gun as needed.
  • Complete understanding of all shipping/receiving procedures and required documentation, i.e., Bill of Lading, Packing list, etc.
  • Assist in performing cycle counts and annual inventory.
  • Gather and stage material for jobs as directed.
  • Complete sign-out sheets for all material transactions.
  • Properly identify and stock all material to ensure that it is stored in proper location
  • Must be detailed oriented, thorough, and organized to ensure proper material identification and inventory count.
  • Maintain cleanliness of all inventory locations (pipe yard/racks inside and outside)
  • Test products for shipment.
  • Clean, paint, and package products for shipment.
  • Weigh and empty material scrap hoppers and report weights.

Driver Responsibilities:

  • Travel approximately up to 60% with occasional trips to and from customer locations locally and for overnight deliveries and pick-ups.
  • Follow Quality management and safety requirements and properly secure loads before transporting.
  • Load and unload trucks at our Company facility only.
  • Monitor vehicle and trailer conditions at customer sites while customer loads/unloads product.
  • Monitor and ensure the maintenance on the vehicle is in good standing, i.e., sweeping off truck, refueling, oil straps.
  • Perform roadside repairs, change tires, install lights, fuses and tire chains as needed.
  • Accurately account for all material transfers, sign-outs, Bills of Lading, timecard reporting and return load receipts to Planning department from pick-ups and deliveries.

Qualifications/Education/Experience Requirements:

  • 1-3 years of equivalent work experience in material handling.
  • Prior fork truck and overhead crane experience.
  • Prior ERP system experience.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Prior Manufacturing experience is a plus.
  • Print Reading/Bill Material knowledge.
  • Organizational and time management skills a must.
  • Self-starter with the initiative to make a difference.
  • Knowledge of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) a plus.
  • Must be able to lift forty (40) plus pounds.
  • Inventory control experience required with some knowledge of Enterprise Resource. Planning (ERP) software.
  • Updated driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Experience with either a 20-foot flatbed truck and trailer, stick-shift required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS/OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee:

  • Must be able to talk and hear.
  • Must be able to walk short and long distances; stand on feet for extended periods of time; work at a computer desk seated on stool, or bending at a cabinet, turning in a chair, use of hands to type, write, file paperwork, and hold a phone, pack & unpack boxes, shipments, etc.
  • Must be able to lift and transfer up to 60 lbs.
  • Work in a space on the shop floor inside a plant with elevated noise levels.
  • Must use vision to type on a computer, read blueprints, instructions, small details, print type or text.

CLEARANCES:

Conditions of employment include, completion and favorable results of a Background Investigation, MVR, Physical, Drug and Alcohol Screens and Baseline Audiogram.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:

  • QMS Training
  • Safety Training
  • General Shipping and Receiving Procedures Training
  • ERP
  • Operate a Fork truck and overhead crane and related equipment.
  • Operate a manual stick-shift, understand DOT regulations for carrying loads on a flatbed truck.
