Summary:
The Manufacturing Engineer Intern will support the Manufacturing Engineer in the identification, development, and implementation of efficiency improvement opportunities on the manufacturing floor. Understanding of Lean/Six Sigma, 6S, and Kaizen principles. Must be able to work in collusion with Management to identify areas of non-value-added activity and waste in production processes and procedures. Provide support in preparing preventative maintenance (PM) schedules.
Education and Training Required
- Working towards a Degree in Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong planning and organizational skills.
- Technical drawing and documentation reading and writing skills training.
- Basic understanding of six sigma/lean management principles
Skills Required
- Assist with troubleshooting and problem-solving Production flow related problems in the Plant Shops.
- Ability to communicate effectively with Management, Plant Personnel, Sales, Engineering, Quality and Accounting Departments.
- Ability to read drawings and understand what manufacturing processes are needed to manufacture the item.
- Proven experience within Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc)
- Ability to work well under pressure.
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Strong analytic skills
Position Duties
- Analyze production processes, schedules, methods, and other data and then provide management with reports containing the data and statistics to enable management to better understand future requirements needed for the manufacturing process.
- Develop production/ inventory controls SOPs (standard operating procedures)
- Analyze and plan workflow, equipment placement and space requirements to improve manufacturing efficiency.
- Assist with work and workflow in Fabrication Shop according to plan set forth by Production Planning Department
- Lead 5s events to improve workplace organization and efficiency.
- Support quality control processes and make recommendations for improvements in processes and procedures.
